Coco Chanel thesis 12/18/08
Coco Chanel one of the worlds most famous female designers. She had such impact on not only women but men in the fashion world. She designed comfortable clothing for women, such as women trousers, suits, short skirts and dresses etc. She had replaced the corset with comfort and casual elegance, calling it the"little boy look".At first many women didn't buy her clothing because the men had to say about them. She had dressed Samuel Goldwin's stars such as Katherine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, etc. Women and men came to the likings of her work around the 1920's. I wonder how women would be dressing today if she didn't lead the path to women are following today.Would women still be wearing corsets if it wasn't for her liberal mind and such a great understanding of women and their comfortably. She opened the door for other women designers to design as they please. I personally admire not just for her stlye and fashion but because she created a whole new way for women.

Thesis 1
Martin Luther King Jr.influenced so many people not just blacks but whites to stand up for there rights and fight for whats right. He also made such and impact on everyone not just in the past but still to this day. Many people refer to Martin Luther King Jr. as an example of inspiration to do what they do. Take look at Barack Obama do you think with out the help of Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders that he would be the first African American male to run for president. And Colin Powell the first African American male to become sectary of state. MLK helped bring a nation together, and pave the way for African Americans to become succesful. Him winning the Nobel peace prize showed that he truly believed in what he did.The "I have a dream a speech",and how many people whites and black showed up to support him, was the one everyone will remember.

It is recruiting people who want to help build the dream of Martin Luther King Jr.

In this article about Martin Luther King Jr. it tells the story of his life.Telling the story about his childhood until his adult life. It's giving me personal information about his life as a kid, his father, how he became a priest, what type of schools he want to, how he met his wife and so on.The focus on this article was mainly on his personal life and how he dealt with it and his career and how he won the nobel peace prize.

I choose Martin Luther King Jr.for my NHD Project because I am interested in showing what a great civil rights leader he was, and showing the many effects he had on everyone not just African Americans.
This person is important to history because without his efforts where will be as nation as Americans. Imaging how much influence MLK is having on Obama for him to be the first ever African American to run for president.

My reflections
I'm Dawnyé .L. Alexander and my values for life are live.love.laugh. Through this experience I learned that i was responsible and able to take care of myself and others and that people trust me to help them out. Also that it is nice to try to make a change not just in your community not everywhere. I do like to volunteer it makes me feel good
about myself. I think that people need to volunteer more in life it really is not that bad it's really helpful to others and it makes you feel good about things and life.

service learning
The first group meeting for service learning was a little boring. I thought I was going to switch groups but I stayed and we made progress. thing with our group is we have a lot e of group leaders that are quiet and they can't control the group. sometimes this group really sucks and I don't want to be a part of it because I my ideas really don't count. The group leaders get to decide every thing we do within our group and it's so irking because no one else gets a say in what we do.
service learning
The next time our group goes out we plan on going to Aramark. this is a major food distribution company and they sponsor high school lunches. one of our team leaders set up a meeting with one of the managers to see what qualification we need for sponsoring incase were not able to go out for lunch next year. we also plan on getting Ms. Lynn help for next year so we will have the right supplies for better lunches next year. the ninth grade Math teacher Ms. D also have great ideas for our group, her sister works for a food company and we are planning to meet with her for sponsoring help.

independent
For my independent service hours I did a couple of things. The main thing I did was babysit kids, I watch one of my friends kids while she worked and I also watch my little brothers for my mother although I was mad because I had to dod this with out getting paid i it was a fun experience. I was also a part of my annual block cleaning with my block captian, I swept pavements and cleaned uo in front of the elders doors. i helped an older guy on my block clean up his house.
reflection
In yesterdays meeting unfortunitely I was absent on that day, but I did get some background info on what they were talking about from one of my group members Katonya who said that they talked about getting better lunches and finding places we could go for help. They also talked about letting Mrs Thompson know that they did not want her on the committiee because she did not want to listen to what they were saying. That is all that they talked about to my knowledge of what my group member told me.

last service learning when we had 90 min
For service learning we had a full 90 mins and we were supposed to go to a farmers market, but instead we went to reading terminal. We had to make up a family and create a weekly salary within your family then combine it all together and see how much your family makes in a month. We based our assignment on family and food. Like we decused how our families food income an how many times a week do we ahve to go food shopping.

service learning reflections 5/1/08
On 5/1/08 our nutrition group went out for lunch to visit a few restaurant to evaluate them. We all went to the gallery but want to different fast food restaurants. We want to places like Burger King, K.F.C, Chi-Fil-A, Master Wok etc. We were trusted to leave out and come back without chaperons with a certain time period. We came back on time. It was a good and tasteful experience. We are making some progress like on 5/2/08 we served tossed salads at lunch.

service learning 4/19/08
In our meeting this week we had more to talk about and more to say about our topic. We did make approvements and made some of the things we said happen, like we made sandwhiches and serve them and we are waiting on the microwaves to arrive, I guess that is a good start. In our meeting this week we talked about having salad bars for the vegetarians in our school or just to have and it is healthy. Our other option was fruit salad or ordering out for lunch either way it an good idea. We are making progress either way you think about it, and hopefully we avhieve some of our goals by the end june 2008.

service learning reflection 4/11/08
For service learning i am in the nutrition group. The nutrition group it is a small group of 11 with ninth and tenth graders. In the nutrition we talked about better ways to approve our school lunches and have real food in here. We discussed what we should bring in our school for the lunchroom like microwaves and many more. But i will really hope that we can go outside for lunch it will be fun and a great chance to get whatever we want and like to eat instead of other people just making stuff for us without knowing what are we allergic to or just don't like it. Hopefully one of our options will happen. Next week should have more ideas of what and how we can approve our lunches.

Is hip hop a contoversial topic and how does it relate to Huckleberry Finn
Some people say that hip hop is controversial but why? what makes it controversial? the swearing, the use of the "N" word, the videos what? well i say that it is controversial but what isn't! And who does this relates to Huck Finn. Here is my three reasons why Hip Hop.
My first reason is the use of nigger or as blacks say nigga but is it right that black rappers use the word "nigga" in mostly all of their songs when African Americans fought so hard to get their name cleared. But let a white person say nigga watch what happens they are going to be called races and probably get beat up for it.I don't think it's right that blacks say it everyday.African Americans are so ignorant how can they call each other that when there ancestors were beat when called that name.To me they live up to the name nigger which i think they are but not all. Do you think that anyone should say the word nigger at all without it seeming races. That is one controversy in Hip Hop but there is more.
The second reason is the video girls. Do you think the every rap video should have video girls. Some say that do they need a video girl for every song it can be a slow about love or something song and they will have a bunch of girls and they are dancing all fast to it y'all don't need a girl dancing in every video damn!!! that's was played out years ago. I can see if it was a song for the club or something but not all the time. It is fun to see the choreograph a see new dances.
My last reason is racial discrimination and by that i mean will a black rapper sell more records than a white rapper. People say that all black people don't know music all they know is rap and hip hop. To me that is there opinion of a black stereotype
There are very few white rappers and people say that they are from the ghetto with no money or poor white trash. Rap to me is like any other music it's the way you express your self without getting in trouble. So would you want blacks running around killing than making something of there self, i would.
Those were my three opinions i not saying they are right or wrong. Hip Hop is what you do it's your feelings. Rather it's girls dancing in front of the camera. Even if it's a white or black person hip hop is hip hop. No madder what it is a good way to express yourself it's a form of art

Should Huckleberry Finn be taught In School
Huckleberry Finn was a good book. It's realistic of the south with slavery and illiterate people and the whites and blacks troubles. To many people this book is controversial because of a couple issues like the use of the word nigga over 50 times. And how they made the slave Jim act in this book like all black people act that way like a stereotype. Here are my three reasons why to me it is not controversial.
My first reason for why huckleberry should be taught in school is that you can learn about the old south from this book. Like how blacks in whites interacted back then. Also how people treated back in general. You can learn about racism and how some whites can be kind hearted. Although it says the word nigger over and over again it's no harm because that's what really happened, they didn't walk around saying kind words to African Americans back then so why lie to us now.
My second reason is that some people say that it is racist but to me it is the truth of the south and the truth should be told. There shouldn't nothing held back even thou it is a little racist but it is the truth about the old south. This shows that not only blacks but poor white people with no education weren't treated that great either. They weren't treated as badly as African Americans but they weren't treated as well as rich white folks with an education.
My last reason is because it is probably controversial to some people that means it is not to others. And the controversy makes it a very good story. I don't know why people say it controversial but what isn't controversial theses days. I like the book and who ever doesn't oh well there missing out on a great book.
Huckleberry Finn is a good book. It is very positive about the south because it didn't make up no lies and kind of hept the truth. It's very good in so many different ways and to me understandable. Also so what it is controversial that is a good book then if it has controversy because it's being ta;liked about. These are my three reasons why it should be taught in school it would be Good book to learn from and a wonderful experience.
